Good News

Thank you all for being so supportive! I went to the orphanage again today, and it is so emotionally draining. I was the only volunteer this afternoon, and when I walked into the baby room there were at least ten babies balling their eyes out and no one in the room at all. It made me soooo sad. But I have really good news. There will be a team of surgeons visiting Suzhou in October to perform cleft lip and palate surgeries! They are from Alliance for Smiles, a wonderful organization out of San Francisco.

If you would like more information about the orphanage, you can pm me (link on my website). Thanks, again, for all your kind words and thoughts.

  1. Oh, honey.
You do what you can, you pray about the rest, and try really hard to not let the vastness of the need overwhelm you.

I’m a speech pathologist, and can appreciate how desperate the need must be. You are doing so much more than you realize by going to these children, and writing about it. Each person you touch with your story will pass it along to another, and so on…

On a happy note: I’ll be at Nationals, and hope very much to see you! I think the Fanlit reunion is going to need a Big space at the bar/restaurant/lounge.

  2. That’s wonderful that there’s an organization coming there! It could make such a difference in those kids’ lives. Good for you, Lenore. I’m sure it must be heart-wrenching, and not everyone could do it. Your bravery and compassion are an inspiration.

  3. Hi Gillian,

Thanks for stopping by! Do you have a blog I can read?

I’m probably not going to make it to Nationals, after all. It’s just too expensive. But I’m still trying to think of a way. I would be so sorry to miss it.

  4. I’m glad to hear that organization is coming to the orphanage. I can only imagine how overwhelming it would be to walk in there to all of those poor sad crying babies. I think what you do is wonderful.

  5. What a wonderful organization- I’m embarrassed to admit I hadn’t heard of it before, and I’m so glad you’re publicizing their incredible work on your blog so others can learn about them.

    Take care,

  6. Sara, I hadn’t heard of them either, so don’t feel bad. It’s such important work they are doing.

Griselle, I haven’t seen you in awhile–thanks for reading!

Thanks Karen & Ericka…you’re the best!
